On December 19, 2001 the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review newspaper devoted almost a full page to a feature story about the awarding of outright- No ‘strings’ attached and No Repayment required- Grants of money to a ... (wink wink nudge nudge) "SELECT FEW" private- For profit businesses and OTHER ‘questionable’ recipients, including certain alleged Public Service Organizations and, believe it or not, even private individuals, by our own, ‘dearly beloved’, "City Fathers", which included a SUPPOSEDLY complete LIST--in block form, of All the respective recipients. See for yourself- search in reference guide at end.

The article is fine, in and of itself, except for one (1) thing. That is, the GLARING OMISSION of one of the most...’interesting’ recipients of the City of Pittsburgh’s ‘free-wheeling’--yet strangely "quiet"- disbursement of YOUR money from said list and story. [T]hat particular recipient is the "Gay and Lesbian Community Center", located in Squirrel Hill. See for yourself- search in reference guide at end.

There is no dispute whatsoever. The "Gay and Lesbian Community Center" RECEIVED a CASH GRANT in the gross amount of $5000,00. The purpose of which, according to the application: to build/expand a RECRUITMENT CENTER to facilitate the Recruiting of CHILDREN- YOUR children through the Pittsburgh Public School System. (kinda sends a little ‘shiver’ down your spine, eh?? gays & lesbians.... "recruiting"??!? KIDS?!?! PUBLIC SCHOOLS??! FOR WHAT and with whose permission and authorization??!? Did anybody ask YOU???--H-m-m-mm). See the contract, search in reference guide at end

So why the omission ? Especially in light of the above. If ever a grant recipient needed to be listed, surely these people did. So begins my tale of investigation, intrigue, obfuscation, exasperation, etc., etc,:

As a firm believer in the ‘shortest distance’ theory, I called the reporter, Mr. Andrew Conte and asked him personally about the omission. He stated flatly that he had no knowledge of any omission and that he had used the exact list-with no editing whatsoever of list provided to him by Urban Redevelopment Authority. I then asked him about the Gay & Lesbian Community Center grant and why was it deleted from published list. To that question, "I have no knowledge of such a group, grant, and any of it." Because he seemed like a nice, honest, decent guy I wanted to believe him. So, I ask him how long has he been employed as a reporter and in particular covering issues on Grant Street. His reply: " probably two or three years," which in all probability means he has been covering Grant Street since 1998. Remember- the Pittsburgh Tribune Review published the list on 19 Dec. 2001. Just eight (8) months prior to that date, I spent two (2) solid weeks with a group of sign-carrying protesters on Grant Street, in full view of the Courthouse and City-County Building. During which, we distributed approximately seven thousand (7,000) copies of a ten page report focusing all attention on [T]his particular grant. H-m-m-mm. OK. Maybe he’s a really bad reporter. Or has poor eyesight. Or can’t read. Or hear....I then explained the situation to him briefly and got him to agree to visit our website for more details and a promise of return call ‘ASAP’. With all respect, I waited and I waited some more. Until January 10, 2002 at which time I called Mr. Conte if he had investigated the deleted grant. His immediate, and some might say, will-rehearsed response was: "I can’t be bothered with this investigation any more; I don’t have time;" and suggested that I pursue contact with his Boss-Woman, Mz. Palmiero.

Which of course, I immediately called Mz Palmiero and went over the whole story again. She seemed genuinely concerned and said she would investigate the matter thoroughly and get back to me ‘ASAP’. Right.... Even after leaving several messages on her answering machine, as of this day, I have yet to hear from Mr. Conte or his boss-woman, Mz. Palmiero...

Why did the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review ‘care’ enough to devote nearly a full page of space to the listing-Dare we say...EXPOSING?? of these Grant Recipients, while ‘Somehow’ managing to ‘forget’ to include the Most questionable- and some might go so far as to say, MOST FRIGHTENING or at least one of the most CONTROVERSIAL grants awarded?!? A grant that is ‘free & clear’, that will provide outright avowed lesbians and homosexuals with the means and wherewithal to, as they freely admit, Recruit children -Your children--from the public schools!!!...

Why will NO ONE at the Pittsburgh Tribune Review give me a straight, simple ANSWER to my straight, simple question??...
